Let’s face it, everyone and their grandma is doing some sort of ride share. Whether it’s Uber or Lyft, these two platforms have become the extra money most of us need just to make ends meet. Be honest, either you downloaded the app and contemplated signing up or you’re already in these streets getting busy and seeing what it’s all about. We want to give you four tips that can help make you $900 or more per week driving with Lyft.
Tip #1: Treat This like a Real Job!
We know this is a side hustle for you and you can turn it on and off at anytime, but if you can take it a little more serious, you can make some big bucks. Treat it just like a real job, don’t jerk around. If you’re going to work for five hours a day, work for the full five hours. Don’t go to your girlfriend’s house for two hours trying to get some and then spend another two hours over a friend’s house. Work your shift, stay focused, and pretend you have a boss over your neck that will fire you for stealing time.
Tip #2: Keep Your Car Clean!
Don’t be a dirt ball and have your car looking nasty. Keep it clean and smelling good. If you’re a smoker, I recommend “blunt spray.” It’s actually made for weed smokers to take away the smell of weed while driving, but it works for anything. Two squirts of this spray and any smell you want gone is gone. Keep your car up to par with a car wash and a good vacuum here and there. I’m not saying be a neat freak, but show your passengers that you—somewhat—care about them and that you provide excellent service. In return, you’ll receive excellent tips.
Tip #3: Provide Excellent Customer Service!
Along with keeping your vehicle neat and tidy, you definitely want to bring your customer service en route with you. If your car looks great and smells good but your attitude stinks, you might get a slap in the face before you get a tip. Customer service matters and, at the end of the day, these people are customers. Treat your customers like customers, not like homeless hitchhikers who need a ride for free. These people are actually paying for this service and when you go above and beyond to give them a great experience for their short time in your vehicle, some of them will return the favor and add a tip.
Tip #4: Drive Safe but With a Purpose!
Hey look, if you want to make big money doing Uber or Lyft, you have to drive a little faster. I’m not saying be a little speed demon, but get there. As soon as you get that notification to pick up someone, stop what you’re doing and head out. The faster you get there, the faster you can pick them up and drop them off. This means on to the next customer and more money in your pocket. Example: If it takes you an hour for a 15 minute ride from either taking the long way or just driving slow, you’ll miss easy money.
If you follow these four tips, you’re sure to make a lot of money in this ride share business. Trust me, I know from first-hand experience. I applied these tips in my every day drive for Lyft and was making about $1,000 to $1,200 every week. It can be done, just try.
